WH Chap 7

Pigs

South East Asia was an important center of pig domestication. Studies show that eating pork became highly ritualized in the area and was sometimes only allowed during ceremonial occasions. In ancient Egypt pigsalso took on a scared role being associated with the evil god Set, so it was prohibited to eat them. Dating back during the 3rd millennium, an archeological site was found in locale eastern Iran the provides evidence that eating pigs there too was taboo. Even though the site was home to many wild pigs, not a single bone of one was found at the site.
